Bridesmaids Gifts

  1. Pandora Bracelet, Sterling Silver, Pandora Clasp; $55
  2. Pandora Charm, "Love Me", White Mother of Pearl; $50
Pandora bracelets and charms are something my mom got me into.  If you are unfamiliar with the idea, it's basically like an up-scale version of a charm bracelet.  I already have one full one at home, I'm about to need a new bracelet!  It's so much fun to collect the charms, which range in styles and materials (and price!!).  I thought maybe this would be a nice gift to my close girlfriends that I choose to be in my wedding party.

Ideas For My Dream Wedding (Part 5)

Thrifting List:

A tandem bike.  Definitely on my Wedding Day Wishlist.  So cute.  Picture via Caitlin Creer Interiors.

I'd love to pick up a bunch of quilts, like this one from QuiltsByBarb, to use for the table cloths, and to maybe put in the OOT/Guest Bags.  I probably need to get a head start on this part in particular, because I'll need so many and I am not sure how readily available they are.

Vintage tables and chairs, and other pieces of furniture.  Picture via Vintage Indie.

Vintage silverware, like this lot from OldOhioFarmFinds, would make a fun, eclectic addition to the table.  I'm going to have to scour the thrift shops for every piece I can find.

Cake stands of every size, shape, and color.  Picture via Inc Weddings.

Setting the Table

I love these paper straws from Kikkerland, and I think they would look totally fantastic in the...

Glass Canning Jars we are going to use for drinking glasses.  So cute!

I'd love to pick up a bunch of quilts, like this one from QuiltsByBarb, to use for the table cloths, and to maybe put in the OOT/Guest Bags.

Vintage silverware, like this lot from OldOhioFarmFinds, would make a fun, eclectic addition to the table.

I think these plain white plates will be a nice break from all the other colors and textures, don't you?

These napkin dispensers are super cute.  I think they would be amazing on the table, not to mention functional!

We will make place card holders out of these Premium Quality Corks.  Josh has these at his work, and also home brewing and wine-making is something he likes to do, so it might be a nice way to incorporate one of his hobbies into the reception.

Something else I've been looking into which would also incorporate Josh's and my hobby of making beverages would be to get these cute little champagne bottles screen printed with some sort of neat, retro-looking "logo" for our wedding (like a Shelby & Josh banner, or something), and filling them with homemade, fruit flavored sodas.  I'm sure one of our graphic-designer friends would be able to help us out with the design.

Ideas For My Dream Wedding (Part 3)

The OOT/Guest Bags!

One of the wonderful things about planning to get married somewhere unconventional (like a farm) is that we can have something unconventional (like camping) as part of our special day.  In truth, this was Josh's idea, but I love it.  It's not, like, roughing it camping.  It's, like, modern, poop-in-a-toilet camping, which I can totally handle.  How awesome would it be to get married in the morning (or a few days before), followed by brunch, a break for some killer photos, and then reception festivities, food, music, and later end the day with a bon fire, s'mores, and bedtime stories?  I cannot picture a more ideal wedding for Josh and myself.  All this excitement got me thinking about favors... what would I want to provide for OOTers and guests that are staying over and camping with us?  I'm been dreaming up a few things:

B.T. McElrath is a local chocolate company we love.  We are particularly fond of their Salty Dog dark chocolate bar... it has caramel and sea salt!  So yummy.  I thought these gourmet bars would make for some interesting s'mores with...

Sweet & Sara's Vanilla Marshmallows (vegan).  Melt in your mouth goodness!

The chocolate and marshmallows should go pretty well with these organic Honey Grahams.

And aren't these cast iron "Twig" Skewers so cute?  What better to roast the marshmallows with?

Josh and I make some pretty mean popcorn.  I even figured out a way to make not-bad-for-you kettle corn!  So maybe we can include a box of each in the bags.  I found these super cute Circus Popcorn Boxes at Bake It Pretty.  Otherwise... do they still make JiffyPop? That might be fun, too... although decidedly less healthy...

Vita CoCo Coconut water is super yummy, and it's basically nature's Gatorade.  It'll be a good idea to have this on hand to keep us all hydrated.

And it'll all go in this ECOBAGS® Organic Cotton Canvas Tote.  Who couldn't use another tote bag?  We would probably get it screen printed (or screen print them ourselves) with something cool and Shelby-and-Josh-got-married related!

I also think we'll provide homemade preserves, biscuits, and of course grillables for our carnivorous and vegan friends alike.  What else could go in this bag?

Ideas For My Dream Wedding (Part 2)

Okay, so I would love to have an assortment of our Engagement Shoot photos (that are obvs, as of yet, untaken, but which I have loads of ideas for) in these cute, cheap frames from Ikea.  I'm thinking of getting a whole lot of them (seriously, like a couple hundred), hanging them either from a few trees, or maybe on a wall or something,  and then using them as part of the favors after the reception for the guests.  I got the idea from the Taylor Swift video below... from the trees with the photos hanging from them.  Cute, huh?

Ideas For My Dream Wedding (Part 1)

Okay, so I really want to get married outside in the morning on a farm in the summer.  I want the reception to be outdoors during the afternoon and into the evening.  Josh, my FFI (future future intended) suggested that we also invite our wedding party and close friends to camp over night.  Now we are really getting somewhere!  The last few weeks my mind has been a-buzz with all the pretty ideas I'd want to use for our special day/weekend. I decided to make this post for inspiration.

Firstly, I absolutely love old, blue canning jars.  I'd want these everywhere, on every table as a vase, place-setting skewer holder, etc.  Love them.  The only problem is finding them is difficult, and paying for them is expensive.  During a Google search for "blue canning jars" I was delighted to find a tutorial on how to make your own blue jars out of regular old canning jars!  I also want to use the regular glass canning jars as glasses. Hey, at least I already own one blue jar!

Something else I love are vintage cake stands.  These will come in handy, especially since instead of a wedding cake I want to have a table full of baked goodies... cupcakes, macaroons, cookies, you name it!  This cake stand I found in FBvintage's Etsy shop.  So cute!  I want them in all coordinating colors to match my (as of yet undetermined) color scheme.

What better accessory for a cake stand (besides a cake) than beautiful contained cupcakes?  This is where Bake It Pretty will come in handy.  This is a one stop online shop chock full of fabulously fun finds for all your baking needs.  Cups, liners, molds... and also another things I'll desperately want to provide my guests with...

Bakery boxes and other containers from Bake It Pretty!  I want to have such an abundant supply of treats that we'll want -nay, need! - guest's to help us out a little, and bring some home for later.

So, since I don't want a cake... I want to find a cake topper that can fit on a cupcake or separate bride and groom ones to fit on two cupcakes.  I do have these super cute green lovebirds salt and pepper shakers that I've been thinking about using... as long as they fit in with the color scheme.  But I do like this cake topper to the left, from WeddingStar.  It's even more appropriate because Jessie does this awesome thing called The Un-Booth, and she has a frame that can be used as a prop... could this be a sign??

I really love all the colors from this Playful Vineyard Wedding featured on Once Wed, photographs by Our Labor of Love Photography.

This wedding on Snippet & Ink is incredible.  Definitely the vibe I want to capture.  And how cute are those handmade corsages and boutonnieres the bride made?  Find more pictures of the couple on Loved despite great faults.

I love this DIY pinwheel tutorial on Style Me Pretty.  Such a great idea!

I definitely want to get a custom silhouette done of each of us, have them framed, and hang them somewhere in the reception.

I've pretty much decided to get my dress off of Etsy when the time comes.  Check out this beautiful gem of a dress I found on there!

These Fabric Flower Garlands are super cute.  I want them all over at my wedding!

Minneapolis City Hall Wedding?

photo : kevin joseph

Lately I've been toying with the idea of having a City Hall Wedding.  Just me and Josh.  And Jessie and Kris as photographers and... witnesses? :)

There are just so many stunning City Hall wedding pictures that I've seen.  It sounds like a dream come true, too.  Low key, super personal wedding, then spending the day together doing fun little things around town like getting gelato, going on a walk around beautiful St. Anthony Main.  Oooooo, Nicollet Island!  The Grain Belt sign!  Mill City Museum!  Okay, now I'm really starting to like this idea...

Inspiration: New Color Palettes

sources: {here & here}

I subscribe to The Knot's newsletter. Today I received an email containing "20 (New!) Wedding Color Combos", so of course I had to look! The above two are my favorite of the bunch. It makes me want to revisit that post I made a while ago about color palettes, and do some more work. What are your favorite colors?

This is the one, really!

Okay, here's an update on the ring situation. Josh and I went to try on rings on Thursday, and it was a lot of fun. While I loved the ones I picked out originally -I mean... the lace design is just magnifique- Josh and I both agreed that these are more me. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but both the bands are so delicate and beautiful, and the obvious bonus is that we can use my mom's oval diamond in the setting. It's funny to think that these fit me so perfectly and just happen to be almost half as much.  When does that happen, right?  Usually it's the opposite hehe.

I saw Josh checking out some wedding bands, too. I think he saw a few he wouldn't mind wearing.  I saw a brushed platinum one that I really liked for him... maybe that'll be an update later on!

This is the one!

I found THE perfect engagement ring for me yesterday.  Now, tell me that's not a totally amazing ring?? Josh agreed that it's a "very pretty ring!"

"Grace and strength unite in this stunning star selection. Strings of channel-set graduated diamonds lead up the shoulders of the band, giving this modern-classic design a pretty profile. Lace-like signature Tacori crescent silhouettes create windows of light along the sides for interest from every angle."

We were laying in bed last night having a really wonderful conversation, and "the ring" came up. I told him all about how and why I picked it and how that's it, that's absolutely what I want. Then he asked me, "Can we get it around here?" So of course I told him where we could find it. Eeeee, he's going to ask me soon, I just know it.

We are going to use my mom's oval diamond to put in a solitaire setting at first, while we save up for these!  Josh said, "Three rings?  Isn't that kind of excessive?"  and I said, "I'm a girl, I can never have too many diamonds."  Later I found out my mom also has three rings.  But instead of two engagement rings and one wedding band like I'll have, she has one engagement ring and two wedding bands.

Color Palette?

How does someone go about choosing the perfect color scheme? I'm by no means a professional. I just have colors I like. What's the trick to getting them to go together perfectly? So perfectly that someone might look at it and say Why, yes! That's just right. I guess I'll just keep playing around til I find a combo that knocks my socks off.
